Finally, on October 27, 2018, Watanabe made his NBA debut for the Memphis Grizzlies, with a win over the Phoenix Suns. He played for the Grizzlies till 2020.
Then on November 27, 2020, Watanabe signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Toronto Raptors to join their pre-season roster. Further, on December 19, his deal was converted to a two-way contract, after he made the team out of pre-season.
With his two-way contract, Watanabe simultaneously did his duty for both the Toronto Raptors and their NBA G-League outfit. Watanabe played for the Raptors until 2022.
