Nelson Piquet Career
Nelson Piquet made his Formula One debut in 1978 at the German Grand Prix and completed his first full season with the Brabham team in 1979. In 1980, Piquet registered his first ever F1 victory – at the United States Grand Prix. The Brazilian made his first major breakthrough in 1981 – taking home the F1 World Championship title.
In his illustrious career spanning more than a decade, Piquet registered 23 Grand Prix wins, 60 podium finishes along with three Drivers’ World Championship titles, which make him one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport. Piquet has significant achievements in other motorsports events outside of F1 – he was the Brazilian national karting champion in 1971–72 and won the Formula Vee championship in 1976. After retiring from F1 in 1991, Piquet switched to Indianapolis 500 before retiring from the sport to concentrate on his business activities.
After his retirement, Piquet has made a name for himself as an established businessman in Brazil and has powerful political connections. He runs several businesses from his base in the capital city of Brasilia. Besides handling business, Piquet also works as a guest expert and commentator on F1 shows for various networks.
