According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in Spezia forward David Okereke.
The Nigerian, 21, has taken the Serie B by storm this term, hitting ten goals and 12 assists in 31 games. He has been Spezia’s go-to-man during an outstanding campaign in the Serie B; however, they were beaten by Cittadella in promotion play-offs quarter-finals on Friday.
Failure to achieve promotion will likely see now Spezia lose their academy graduate and the Italian outfit is likely to demand at least £8million for the highly-rated David Okereke, who has also caught the attention of Wolves and Inter Milan, adds the report.
But it’s Newcastle United that should be a perfect fit for David Okereke.
Newcastle couldn’t match last season’s heights and finished 13th on the table this term. The Magpies had a tough 2018/19 season where they struggled for goals. While Ayoze Perez chipped in with goals late on for the team, it was Salomon Rondon who was the club’s chief source of goals.
Rondon has been awarded Newcastle’s Player of the Season award following a fantastic campaign. After moving from West Brom on a season-long loan deal last summer, the Venezuelan has been a revelation at Newcastle. But, aside from scoring goals, he also created a lot of chances for his teammates.
However, the 29-year-old’s future at St. James’ Park hangs in the balance due to the uncertainties over the club’s future. Should Rafael Benitez fail to get the permanent signing of Rondon, Newcastle might be in deep trouble next term.
To avoid such circumstances, the Magpies must sign Okereke, however, he won’t be considered as a natural replacement for the Venezuelan.
Okereke has made waves in Italian football’s second-tier and at 21, he has the potential to become a world-class centre-forward in European football. The Nigerian boasts of good pace and power which helps him to dribble with the ball at high speed in the opposition half.
However, he is a raw talent and will need to sharpen his game if he wants to succeed in the Premier League.
The potential addition of Okereke will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s attacking options at St. James’ Park. Furthermore, he will also add a bit of depth to the Magpies squad which might help them clinch a top-half finish next season.

For a player with massive potential, Okereke’s addition would be a big coup for Newcastle.
