Bullet Club is one of the most popular pro wrestling factions in the history of the wrestling World. There have been several occasions where WWE has tried to use the club’s popularity to their use in the hope of boosting merchandise sales. Most notably with the Balor Club. Here is everything about the club’s origin, history and Current Status.
1. Origin
The Bullet Club is a professional wrestling stable that mainly appeared in the Japanese promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling. The Group was formed in May 2013 when Irish wrestler Prince Devitt betrayed his Japanese partner Ryusuke Taguchi and came together with America Wrestler Karl Anderson and Tongan wrestlers Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga to form a villainous stable of foreigners, which was subsequently named Bullet Club.
The stable was first joined by three other Americans, The Young Bucks, and Doc Gallows. It was also joined by several other members of Mexican Promotion who have also worked tours of NJPW as members of Bullet Club, which led to the formation of an offshoot group named Bullet Club Latinoamerica in CMLL in October 2013.
2. History
Bullet Club grew rapidly after its debut, adding Rey Bucanero of CMLL to its ranks. After Devitt failed to beat Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, Tama Tonga and Bucanero went to CMLL to establish “Bullet Club Latinoamerica.”
During that time, only The Young Bucks debuted as a member of the bullet club. However, they quickly laid their foundation and dominated the NJPW Tag Team Division for years.
As Devitt’s run in NJPW ended, AJ Styles made his presence felt in NJPW quickly as he targeted Okada. As Karl Anderson led the stable in NJPW, Styles became the leader in ROH, and by the end of 2015, he was made the leader of Bullet Club in Japan.
At the end of 2013, Bullet Club held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships while having conquered three of NJPW’s five annual tournaments.
After attaining a lot of championship titles, On November 8th, 2014, Kenny Omega became the newest member of the Bullet Club, having spent six years in Japan and being fluent in the language. Bullet Club got its first Japanese member when Yujiro Takahashi betrayed his former partner, and the stable went on to win all the titles that NJPW had to offer. To this date, they are the first of the three stables to have won every available in the NJPW. In addition, they also held every male championship in ROH.
After the Wrestle Kingdom 10, it was revealed that AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson had signed contracts with WWE, resulting in Styles being kicked out of the stable and Omega becoming the new leader. Additionally, after the split between the Elite and OG factions within the stable, Omega, Cody, Marty Scurll, Adam Page, and The Young Bucks quietly left the coalition in October 2018 to form All Elite Wrestling.
After The Elite ended their association with Bullet Club, Jay White, a former member of Chaos, joined the faction at King Pro Wrestling and Tama Tonga announced that White was the new leader of the Bullet Club.
3. Current Status
Recently at the Dominion 6.12 in Osaka-jo Hall, Fale and Owens lost the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship back to the United Empire. At the same time, Juice Robinson was forced to vacate the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship due to suffering appendicitis before the event. On the other hand, Karl Anderson defeated Tama Tonga to win the NEVER Openweight Championship, and Jay White defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
