Fans of Marvel will have the exciting opportunity to see Steve Rogers, the heroic super soldier also known as Captain America, sing and dance on stage for the first time ever. Disneyland Resort has created a one-act musical theater production called “Rogers: The Musical,” which premiered last week at the Hyperion Theatre in Disney California Adventure Park. This special musical is part of Walt Disney’s 100th-anniversary celebration and will be open for audiences to enjoy until August 31.
Interestingly, ‘Rogers: The Musical’ was initially mentioned as a fictional Broadway show in the first episode of the Disney+ miniseries ‘Hawkeye,’ which focuses on the superhero Clint Barton, an expert archer with high-tech weapons.
The idea of bringing ‘Rogers: The Musical’ to life emerged after the Disney Live Entertainment team watched the first episode of ‘Hawkeye.’ Inspired by the fictional musical, they envisioned creating a reality show. Dan Fields, the executive creative director for Disney Live Entertainment, expressed their excitement and imagination in turning ‘Rogers: The Musical’ into a tangible and entertaining experience for the audience.
The exciting new musical project is a collaboration between Disney Live Entertainment and book writer Hunter Bell, known for his work on the Tony Award-nominated show. The production will showcase five brand-new songs composed by Grammy-winning artist Christopher Lennertz, with lyrics contributed by Jordan Peterson, Christopher Lennertz, and Alex Karukas.
In addition to these original songs, the musical will include beloved fan-favorites such as “Save The City” from the Hawkeye series (written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman) and “Star Spangled Man” from the movie Captain America: The First Avenger (written by Alan Menken and David Zippel).
The musical “Rogers: The Musical” tells the story of Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, a beloved American superhero. The production features the song “Save the City” from the film ‘Hawkeye,’ along with five new songs composed by Grammy-winning artist Christopher Lennertz.
Marvel introduced the song ‘Save the City’ at last year’s Disney Convention, D23, which helped pave the way for the creation of the musical.
The show will not only focus on Steve Rogers but will also include characters like Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, and other Avengers. Audiences will witness Steve’s journey from his origin story to his adventures in the future. ‘Rogers: The Musical’ is scheduled to have multiple performances per day, from Tuesday to Saturday, at Disney California Adventure Park.
To enhance the experience, Disney will offer themed food and drinks related to the musical, along with merchandise inspired by the show.
