Here’s all you need to know about pickleball – the sport rapidly growing popular amongst NBA superstars.
There’s a new sport in town that is attracting the attention of the NBA superstars, so much so that they are planning to invest in it. Superstars of the highest caliber such as LeBron James, Draymond Green, and Kevin Love are planning to invest in Major League Pickleball, the major American league of the game that is the most rapidly growing sport in the whole country.
Besides the likes of James, Green and Love who are planning to invest in MLP, a star-studded group of former Super Bowl champion Drew Brees, former No. 4 tennis star James Blake and Ryan Serhant, founder and CEO of real estate brand Serhant are already included in the league’s ownership rank. And courtesy of such a star-studded group, MLP is growing incredibly fast.
According to the league’s founder Steve Kuhn, “Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the country, building communities in cities and towns all over the world. This investment and the platform that this group provides will significantly help us with our goal to reach 40 million pickleball players by 2030.” This merely adds another sporting venture to LeBron’s CV.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has previously invested in various sporting ventures such as the Fenway Sports Group which holds shares in Liverpool Football Club, the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Penguins and NASCAR’s Roush Fenway Racing. Bron also invested in AC Milan earlier this summer, but Major League Pickleball is certainly his most interesting investment.
What is the fastest growing American sport all about?
Pickleball can be described as a hybrid of badminton, tennis and Wiffle Ball.
Pickleball is essentially a racquet and ball sport. The sport is easy to learn and easy to play, which adds to its growing popularity throughout the country – and we will look into a few rules on how to play the game.
There are five basic rules of pickleball, which we will list as follows. The basic five rules of pickleball are that the ball must remain in bounds, the ball must bounce once per side, serving is done underhanded at the baseline, the serve can’t land in the no volley zone and the game is played to 11 or 15 or even 21 points – although the most common is 11.
According to the MLP’s press release, the sport will expand from 12 to 16 teams, and in 2023, the players will compete in six tournaments for more than $2 million.
