Sasha Calle, a rising star in the entertainment industry, has been cast as Supergirl in the highly anticipated film “The Flash.” The movie explores the multiverse as Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, goes back in time to save his mother, inadvertently causing havoc in the process. Calle’s Supergirl takes on a significant role, similar to Superman’s in the “Flashpoint” storyline from the comics.
Calle’s selection for the coveted role came after an extensive casting process. The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, revealed that over 400 actresses from around the world auditioned for the part of Supergirl. Ultimately, Calle’s exceptional talent and undeniable screen presence made her the perfect fit to portray the symbol of hope that Supergirl represents.
Although “The Flash” marks Calle’s feature film debut, she has showcased her acting prowess in various short films, including “Rogue Tiger,” “18 Minutes,” “The White Shoes,” “Final Stop,” “Deep Cuts,” and “Young Blood” between 2017 and 2019.
Additionally, she played Virginia in the 2017 miniseries “Socially Awkward.” However, her most prominent role prior to “The Flash” was as Lola Rosales, a young chef, in the long-running soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” which earned her a Daytime Emmy Awards nomination.
Originally, Calle’s Supergirl was expected to have a spinoff movie within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, changes within the DC regime led to a reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While there is currently no direct connection between Calle’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El in “The Flash” and the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” film, there is optimism that her performance will be well-received, potentially opening doors for future Supergirl projects.
Looking ahead, Calle’s future in the industry appears bright. While she currently has no TV projects lined up, she joins a talented ensemble cast in the upcoming film “On Swift Horses,” which includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Will Poulter, Jacob Elordi, and Diego Calva. “On Swift Horses,” based on a book of the same name, delves into a captivating love triangle.
As Sasha Calle makes her mark as Supergirl in “The Flash,” her talent and breakout performance is expected to propel her career to new heights. Whether or not a return to the DC Universe occurs, her presence in the film is likely to open doors to exciting opportunities in the industry. Audiences eagerly anticipate witnessing Calle’s remarkable journey as she establishes herself as a formidable force in Hollywood.
