An impressive Dominic Stephan Stricker takes on Tseng Chun-hsin in their final group game in the Next Gen ATP Finals on Thursday.
The Swiss youngster has been in fine form at the under-21 tournament so far. He has won both his matches in contrasting styles. Dominic Stephan Stricker hopes to play like his illustrious compatriot Roger Federer someday. While that is a tall order, he would be happy with how he has started so far in his career.
In his first match, Stricker defeated Jack Draper in straight sets in a very competitive match. The encounter ended 4-3 (7-5), 4-3 (7-5), 4-3 (7-5). If this match was competitive then his second match against Lorenzo Musetti was epic. Stricker won the first couple of sets but Musetti bounced back strongly to bag the next two sets. The Munsingen-born player managed to win the fifth-set tiebreaker to put one step into the semis. The match ended 4-3 (7-5), 4-3 (8-6), 3-4 (7-9), 3-4 (6-8), 4-3 (7-3) in favor of Stricker.
It has been a rather disappointing campaign for only the second Asian player to make it to the Next Gen ATP Finals. He has lost his both matches so far and is looking down the barrel.
Tseng lost his opening match at the competition in straight sets 4-2, 4-2, 4-2 against Lorenzo Musetti. In the following encounter, Tseng took on the third seed Jack Draper. The young Brit managed to come back from a set down to win the match 1-4, 4-2, 4-3 (7-2), 4-2.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other before.
Prediction: Dominic Stephan Stricker to win in straight sets.
