Nathaniel Hackett’s position is in jeopardy as the Denver Broncos continue to struggle with Russell Wilson as their quarterback.
As a result of an injury, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson did not participate in last week’s game. In the upcoming game for the Denver Broncos against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he is scheduled to make his comeback as the team’s starting quarterback. The Broncos suffered another defeat last week, and their record now stands at 2-5.
There are rumors circulating that the owners of the Broncos are sick and tired of the team’s poor performance. If they are unable to achieve their goal of producing a positive result in London, Hackett may be removed from his position.
However, Nick Wright believes the decision to fire Hackett midseason could prove to be wrong for the franchise. Talking about it, Nick Wright said, “I said I thought it would have been just filed a fire him after week two, because in week one, he made the single most indefensible coaching decision I’ve ever seen at the NFL level, the 64-yard field goal.”
He added, “And in week two situationally, he was worse. And I think that I knew they wouldn’t fire him after week two, but if they did, it’s new ownership who didn’t hire him as getting the most money of anybody in the world.”
Hackett already was under pressure after he made the mistake in Week 1’s game against the Seahawks and since then instead of improving, the Broncos have looked even worse.
Nick Wright further talked about how firing Hackett now would be bad for the Broncos as it might expose their quarterback Russell Wilson. This is a tough situation for the Broncos, and not many solutions are present on the table.
Talking about Hackett, Nick Wright further said, “However, it could be a problem for you, my friend, be careful what you wish for. Because if they bring in a new coach, yeah. And your guy, Russell Wilson still stinks. I don’t know who you’re blaming next. And I keep I heard you, I was listening to the open. And you’re like no precedent for years of excellence in the worst and football.”
He added, “And so I just I worry for you, what’s going to happen if they get rid of the coach and Russell Wilson is still terrible? Do I think he’s the worst quarterback in the league? No. Do I think he is no longer an above-average quarterback? Yes. And I don’t think coaching is going to fix that.”
Russell Wilson is also under immense pressure as he has performed very poorly this season. However, he did sign a long-term contract with the Broncos after he got traded from the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason.
Nick Wright is right because if Wilson continues to perform poorly even after the departure of Hackett then not many new head coaches would like to come to Denver next season and work with him.
Due to it, the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is of huge importance for the Denver Broncos. The new owners want to win games, but so far that goal hasn’t worked out well for them. The Broncos have one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and that is a cause of concern for them.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have played quite well this season, and getting a positive result against them won’t be an easy task for Russell Wilson and the Broncos, but they need to get it or their head coach will be gone.
