How do bye weeks work in the 17-game season schedule?

Published by

Here is all you need to know about how NFL 2021 bye weeks work

For the first time in 43 years, the NFL brought in major changes to the league. The usual 16-game season was changed to 17.

The previous change was way back in 1978 when the league changed from a 14-game season to a 16-game season.

The primary reason for the same has been more revenue. A week extra of the regular season, with the pre-season being cut by a game, will bring in more revenue.

4 games had been the norm for pre-season, and now with the introduction of the 17-game season, the pre-season has been cut to 3 games.

As a result, the season end will be pushed by a week, with no changes to the season start. The Super Bowl will be taking place on the 13th of February, 2022.

Had it been a 16-game season, the Super Bowl would have commenced on the 6th of February, 2022.

However, the league will not be adding another bye week for the 2022 and the forthcoming seasons, meaning that they would be proceeding with one bye week.
