All you need to know about whether the New Orleans Saints have a first-round draft pick for the 2023 NFL Draft.
The New Orleans Saints didn’t have a first-round pick for the 2023 NFL Draft but with Denver Broncos hiring Sean Payton as their new head coach, the Saints will get a couple of draft picks in return for their former head coach.
In exchange for Payton’s services, the Denver Broncos will send the New Orleans Saints a first-round pick in 2023 (at position No. 29 overall) and a second-round selection in 2024, in addition to a future third-round selection. Despite the fact that Payton was going to step down after the 2021 season, he was still under contract with the Saints. This made it necessary for New Orleans to engage in a convoluted transaction with any potential suitor, of whom there were several.
The Saints had a terrible season, but they got a lot of value out of this return. They severely underachieved, and as a result, many people questioned Dennis Allen’s credibility in his role as head coach. The Saints are going to keep him on as head coach, but the franchise needs to make some changes in order to compete again in the NFC South, which is not as strong as it once was.
It is uncertain if Andy Dalton or Jameis Winston is capable of leading this team to the next level, which is why the Saints could very well make a move over the upcoming offseason to acquire a new quarterback.
