Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has impressed many with his play this season and the front office is showing their trust in him.
It’s possible that Jared Goff’s move to the Detroit Lions in 2021 as part of the deal including Matthew Stafford was exactly what he needed to get his career back on track. Additionally, he could be the answer the Lions have been looking for at quarterback moving forward.
In 2022, Goff had a successful season, finishing with a completion percentage of 65.1%, a passing yardage total of 4,438 yards, a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 29-7, and a passer rating of 99.3. Most importantly, Goff was a major factor in the Lions finishing the season with a record better than.500 for the first time since 2017.
This combination of data, together with general manager Brad Holmes’ analysis of the quarterbacks who will be available in the 2023 draught, could lead to Goff’s future employment with the Lions. Speaking about Goff, Holmes said, “I think it’s a lot easier to get worse at quarterback than to get better at quarterback in this league,”
He added, “I think what Jared (Goff) has done this year, he captained the ship of a top-three offense and I want to say he was top-10 statistically in most of the passing categories. And again, you know how we approach the draft, like, we’re never going to turn down a good football player. So, if it’s a football player we really love, I mean, we’re going to make sure every stone is unturned, but I do think that Jared has proven (to) everybody that he is a starting quarterback for us.”
Goff provided evidence that this is the case by taking charge of an astonishingly explosive offense that ended up finishing sixth in passing yards per game and fifth in passing yards per play. The offense of the Detroit Lions was essentially what kept the ship afloat while the defense struggled, but as soon as the defense started to get better in the second part of the season, the Lions’ offense started to really take off.
The future seems bright for Michigan, and if they are able to improve in the necessary areas through the draught, trades, or free agency, this club has the potential to become a real competitor in the upcoming season.
Jared Goff has already been to a Super Bowl
Goff has a wealth of experience when it comes to playing in important games despite the fact that he is still relatively young. This was evident not just in his play throughout the last stretch of the season but also in the fact that he did not commit any turnovers while leading the team from the front.
During his time with the Los Angeles Rams, he participated in the Super Bowl for the first time. Despite the fact that the Rams were ultimately unsuccessful, he was able to get a great deal of experience by playing in the playoffs.
Next year, the Lions have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs, and Goff’s experience could be a deciding factor in whether or not they get there. If the Lions want to be a team that consistently makes the playoffs, then they should focus on improving their defense rather than selecting another quarterback in this year’s draught.
This squad has the potential to win against anyone on any given day because of their excellent coach, Dan Campbell, who always manages to keep his players motivated. All they need are a few of guys to play in the appropriate positions, and they will be unbeatable. It is my hope that Jared Goff will be able to continue to disprove the predictions of his detractors, who wrote him off as a non-starter when the Rams dealt him away.
