Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers knows that he could be traded by the franchise, and he would understand that.
When asked about it on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Aaron Rodgers, the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player had an empathic response when asked about the claims that the front office of the Green Bay Packers is considering him trading away.
This tone is in direct contrast to his public feud with the team’s management ahead of the 2020 season, which began when the team traded up to choose quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The disagreement began after the team traded up to draught Love. Rodgers is aware of the fact that this is a normal aspect of the business world, and he would not take offense if the franchise decided to trade him.
Speaking about it, Rodgers said, “It’s taboo to talk about some of these ideas but to be open to the possibility that, if I want to keep playing, that it might be somewhere else, I understand that, I understand they might want to move on and go younger at a number of different positions. That’s a part of it.”
He added, “I’ve been there 18 years, I have lifelong friends in that organization, I have lifelong memories. I made some of my closest friends in my life because I was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and they paid me multiple contracts. Had amazing success, I met some really special, special people. So, why would I have animosity toward that? And, on the flip side, hopefully there won’t be any animosity if that was the decision at some point.”
Jordan Love has been patiently waiting for his chance to replace Aaron Rodgers as the starter for the past three years, and it appears that the moment has finally come for him to take over from the four-time NFL MVP. Rodgers worked as Brett Favre’s backup for three years before taking over the job himself. As a consequence, it appears to be the ideal time for Jordan Love to take over, and Rodgers might compete for the Super Bowl with a different team.
Aaron Rodgers has stated that he would be thrilled to conclude his career playing for the Green Bay Packers, the franchise that selected him, even though it is possible that the Packers may move him and that he will finish his career playing for another team.
Speaking about it, Rodgers said, “I have nothing but love for the fans and the amazing people I’ve met over the years at different events. It’s a beautiful, beautiful town. So, I think there’s been a lot of fun dreaming about retiring as a Packer because there’s something really special about that.”
He added, “But if the competitive hole still needs to be satiated and it’s time to move on, then I hope everybody would look at that with a lot of gratitude and not any resentment. Or, even on the flip side, ‘Let’s fu**ing get rid of this old guy. It’s time to move on.’ I hope there’s some gratitude on both sides if that happens.”
Rodgers extended his contract with the Packers in March of this year for three years and $150 million, and he is owed close to $60 million in 2023. In his initial statements at the close of the season, he made a point of stating unequivocally that Green Bay is the location he would most like to play in. Love, who filled in for Rodgers due to an injury earlier this year, will be playing in his fourth season in the National Football League this year. The Packers moved up in the selection order to choose Love in the first round in 2020.
In the near future, the franchise will also be forced to make a decision about the fully guaranteed fifth-year option that he has been offered. After a disappointing 8-9 finish in 2022, which led to the first year without postseason football under head coach Matt LaFleur, the front office may be looking to strengthen its draught resources and salary cap space. This comes as a result of the team’s first year without playing postseason football.
