Sean McVay is not prepared to step down from his role just yet. According to people with knowledge of the matter, after giving himself a few days to reflect on his options, he has decided that he will continue to serve as the coach of the Los Angeles Rams.

After a terrible 5-12 season, McVay is currently mulling over possible changes to the coaching staff in 2023. The coach, who won the Super Bowl, was noncommittal about his future plans.

After winning the Super Bowl last year, McVay had the opportunity to take a well-paying position in the television industry. However, he decided to stay in Los Angeles and continue his coaching career there instead. Despite this, the Rams endured a difficult season due to a number of players going down with injuries, including quarterback Matthew Stafford, receiver Cooper Kupp, and star defensive tackle Aaron Donald in the latter stages of the game.

It was only the second time since McVay took over the Rams in 2017 that his team did not make the playoffs, and it was the first time that he did not end the season with a winning record. Even though the prime-time game-analyst roles aren’t as plentifully available as they were the year before, there is no doubt that other networks would compete for the opportunity to add a genius like McVay.

It does not appear likely that this will take place in the year 2023 at the current point. On the other hand, the bright mind is leaning toward coming back and guiding Los Angeles on a tour of redemption.

Why was Sean McVay considering leaving the Rams?

The speculation around McVay’s future reached a fever pitch after the Rams were victorious in the Super Bowl the previous season. Both his and Aaron Donald’s futures were shrouded in mystery to the rest of the NFL world, and even though McVay didn’t make a big deal out of the fact that he wanted to leave his position, others speculated about it anyhow.

McVay finally commented on his future after reports surfaced that Amazon had offered him a contract worth $100 million to join the company as an analyst. In his statement, McVay reaffirmed his dedication to coaching but did not completely rule out a career in broadcasting.

“Just the timing and everything that surrounded it, it’s very flattering. I’m humbled by it,” McVay said following the Super Bowl win, per the New York Post. “To say that down the line that [broadcasting] is not something I’m very intrigued by would not be accurate, but I’m totally committed to coaching.”

When McVay ever decides to leave the sidelines, he most likely will have a successful career in broadcasting. He has proven himself to be an exceptionally sharp NFL thinker, and his popularity among fans is through the roof.

That means that once he does make the decision to cease being on the sidelines, he will have the option to provide analysis in an environment that is less stressful than leading a club in Los Angeles.

If the allegations about McVay’s earlier offer from Amazon were true, then it is a rich deal that might be hard to turn down, especially if Fox, CBS, NBC, or ESPN start bidding for him. If the rumors about McVay’s previous offer from Amazon were true, then that deal may be hard to pass down.

Because of their great eye for the current game, networks have been hunting for fresh-out-of-the-league voices since Tony Romo became a success for his analysis. It’s possible that McVay would be the best person to fill that role.
