Urban Meyer could make a return to college football as a head coach with Nebraska rumored to be interested.
Nebraska fired Scott Frost last Sundar after a disappointing start to the season. Their hunt for a new head coach is ongoing, and the name of Urban Meyer has also been brought up in discussions.
Meyer was fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars after a disappointing season, and since then he has been serving as an analyst for college football at FOX Sports. Meyer is undoubtedly one of the best college coaches of all time, and having him is likely to help Nebraska.
On Saturday, sources told CBS Sports that Nebraska has contacted Urban Meyer about the head coaching position. Meyer’s interest in continuing in the position was possibly raised, but it was not made clear if this actually happened.
Nebraska’s athletic director Trev Alberts also spoke up on the situation. He said, “You’re gonna hear about a lot of names. That’s good. That means we’re going to talk to a lot of people because we’re going to clearly define what our values are, and we’re not going to hire coaches who don’t believe in what we believe in.”
Whether or not Urban Meyer makes a return to college football it will be there to be seen. A coach like him isn’t likely to be available for a long time, which is why Nebraska needs to make a decision quickly.
