Previously Antoine Griezmann scored the last equalizer (eventually ruled out due to offside) only to bring out Jaylen Waddle’s trademark celebration. Now it seems like the win has been caught by Netherland’s marquee scorer – Memphis Depay as he decided to bust out former WR – Antonio Brown’s celebration.
With just 10 minutes into the game, it seemed like USA had got off to a better start in their Round of 16 encounter against Netherland. However, an end-to-end attack made sure that Depay was on the scoring end of a beautiful laid back low cross inside the box, giving his nation the much-required boost and confidence.
Eventually Memphis Depay’s Netherlands went onto beat USA 3-1 in dominating fashion, yet there was one act which caught the eye of many American football fans, was Depay and his celebration from Brown’s song “Put That S**t On.” In fact, the dance has caught on since the song’s release this summer.
Perhaps this time around this celebration wasn’t a tribute, but a sarcastic dig for the slander various personnel from the States had bundled upon in the pre-game build up. One of which was Charles Barkley as well, who blatantly joked about Netherlands not being a tough opponent to USA.
When Memphis Depay, Netherlands outperformed USA in the game, the former soccer sensation was quick to fire shots.
That being said, Netherland would now be locking horns against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the Quarter Finals. Who will come out victorious remains to be seen.
