Baker Mayfield has a total tally of 380 passing yards, 2 passing TouchDowns, one interception, over 79% Quarterback rating, completing 53.6% of his throws–as the Carolina Panthers go down into a 0-2 hole in the 2022-23 NFL Season. The team’s result has led to former star turned analyst – Shannon Sharpe called out the marquee QB – Mayfield.
Baker Mayfield is undoubtedly one of the most skilled players in the league. But his stint with the newly shaped Carolina Panthers seems to be not hitting the right spots. On the same note, during the latest episode of Undisputed, Sharpe went onto criticize Mayfield for his lack of inspirations.
Sharpe quoted, “Baker Mayfield is not exponentially better than Sam Darnold. This is what they were last year. Last year they averaged 18 points a game, they were 30th in yards, 29th in passing yards, 29th on third down. This year, they are averaging 20 points in a game – which is two points more. They’re 28th as opposed to 30th in total yards. They are 30th in passing yards, last year they were 29th. And they’re 29th last year and this year on third down.”
Panthers have paid a certain price to gain the service of Baker Mayfield in July, and their fans surely want to see the veteran fulfil them. Carolina gave Browns a 2024 conditional fifth-round draft pick.
Given that this is the fourth consecutive season that the Carolina Panthers are trying a new Quarterback, consistency and patience have been major problems faced by the professionals.
Sharpe concluded, “He’s a JAG, just another guy.”
Given that the Panthers are 10-25 under Matt Rhule, Baker Mayfield needs to find the leadership trait, which would inspire the rest of the team to make moves on the field. Next up for the Panthers is New Orleans Saints, who are eager to avenge their loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Will we witness Baker Mayfield finally stepping on the center stage for his new team?
