Tom Brady might return to NFL – Bucs GM Jason Licht
Following a stellar career filled with honours to the brim, Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL last month after 22 seasons. Brady’s departure from the league has left a gaping hole that needs to be filled.
While that hole is impossible to be infused by any other quarterback on the planet, Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Jason Licht is not ruling out Brady’s return to the franchise to fill that void. In fact, just a week after his announcement to retire on February 1st, Brady fueled speculation of a return to the NFL.
In an emotional Instagram post, the 44-year-old Brady wrote, “I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention,” But the seven-time Super Bowl champion said that he couldn’t rule out a potential return to the field. He said he could feel differently about the retirement situation in six months.
In an interview on the “Let’s Go!” podcast with host Jim Gray, Brady’s “never say never” response when asked about playing in 2022 grabbed headlines. He further explained, “You know, I’m just gonna take things as they come. I think that’s the best way to put it and I don’t think anything, you know, you never say never. At the same time, I know that I’m very fine, I feel very good about my decision.”
Following Brady’s comments on a potential return to the Bucs, Tampa Bay GM Jason Licht has added further fuel to the fire. The 51-year-old admitted that a door will remain open for Brady, who is still under contract with the Bucs in 2022.
At a recent press conference, Licht said, “We’ll see what the future holds. Let’s just say, we’ll leave the light on… We always leave the light on for a guy like Tom Brady.”
Tom Brady retired with a supreme legacy, leading the NFL in passing attempts (719), completions (485), yards (5,316) and touchdown passes (43). He is a 15-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time NFL MVP as well.
He won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots before joining the Bucs in 2020. Brady then led Tampa Bay to Super Bowl glory in his first season with the franchise.
