Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard has put the future of Carson Wentz at the franchise under massive jeopardy with his latest comments.

Carson Wentz’s future with the Indianapolis Colts remains up in the air amid the current NFL Combine Week. The Super Bowl champion did not have the best of years last season and his salary, along with injury woes may seem to be a problem for Colts GM Chris Ballard.

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday at the NFL Combine Week, Ballard did little to confirm that Wentz will remain at the Colts franchise for the 2022 season. In fact, Ballard hinted that the 29-year-old might even be traded.

When asked about his QB’s future at the Colts, Ballard explained, “I know I’m going to get a lot of questions about Carson right now. I don’t have a direct answer for you. We’re working through it. Jim… Mr. Irsay, Frank, and I will sit down over the next 10 days and figure out where it’s going.

He continued to fuel rumours of a potential exit for Ballard as he said, “Ultimately, we’ll do what’s best for the team… for the Colts. Both in the short term and the long term. you’ve gotta have a guy you believe in and you can win with.

Ballard concluded by stating that he was not yet convinced on whether Wentz will be the guy to take the Colts to the summit of the NFL. “We need to discuss whether he (Wentz) is for the long term. We’re not there yet. I’m not there yet.”

Carson Wentz’s debut season with the Colts

Wentz suffered a foot injury during preseason training after his move to the Colts in the offseason. However, he managed to return for the team in August and posted a 9-8 record with 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.

Wentz is already costing the Colts a fortune with his $22 million base salary and $6 million in bonuses. So, it remains to be seen whether the Colts will look for a new QB or continue with the former Eagles superstar.
