The Los Angeles Rams acquired Baker Mayfield to only finish their 2022-23 campaign in good spirits. While they have been hyped since the former #1 pick has elevated their game-style, even then there is no reason for their injured stars to rush their way back onto the field, as practically their season is almost over – just 4 games remaining to mark the end.
Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay isn’t entirely sure that Cooper Kupp would be willing to sit out the rest of the season, despite the current playoff picture. On one hand where the expectation was for Kupp to sit out the remaining 2022-23 campaign, McVay’s update could bring some happiness for Baker Mayfield and the rest of the Rams.
“I’ve got to be careful speaking in absolutes,” McVay said during a video conference with reporters Tuesday, via Stu Jackson of the Rams’ official website. “I think it would be surprising if he was able to play again. But I don’t want to say there’s a zero percent chance of that.”
“It’s not that anything’s been made (as far as a decision),” McVay said. “It’s really just the timing of the injury and how long it would take for him to get back to even being medically cleared to return to performance.”
Baker Mayfield and the Rams will now lock horns against the Green Bay Packers in their next game, in the hopes of clinching a win in Lambeau Field on Sunday.
“So, he’s making good progress, but to see him jumping around, and then actually be able to play NFL football, to see him have good energy on the sidelines, and then going and playing professional football with the toll that that leg takes on it with the way that he plays, I still think you’re probably anywhere between three and four weeks away, and you’re talking about less than a month of football remaining, even though we’ve got four games.”
