The Detroit Lions might be in deep trouble, yet Jeff Okudah has been a bright and shining light for them. The latest to add to that claim is the way he kept Minnesota Vikings’ marquee – Justin Jefferson disengaged in the entire game during the Week 3 banter.
Many thought, Justin Jefferson was on the verge of having his career’s best season after the after the first couple of weeks. But things changed when he locked horns against the mighty Jeff Okudah. To bring everyone on the same page, Jefferson had just three receptions for 14 yards in the entire Vikings vs Lions showdown.
Jeff Okudah was considered a bust for the first two seasons, but he truly showcased his spark and magic – when he was placed against Justin Jefferson. Even CBS Sports could not contain their excitement, publicly quoting, “Jeff put Justin Jefferson on LOCKDOWN today – 6 targets, 3 receptions, 14 yards.”
Talking about the Lions vs Vikings encounter in Week 3, Detroit held Justin Jefferson very well, but weren’t prepared for Adam Thielen, who ended up going off for 61 yards and a TouchDown. Moreover, K.S.Osborn was even more impressive for 73 yards and a game winning score late in the game.
While many might point fingers at Justin Jefferson for backing down against a young gun, this also indicates that Jeff Okudah has arrived in a big way. Furthermore, it also a big indication for Detroit Lions that they have to get better play next to Okudah given how they struggle covering their own target.
That being said, there are no doubts that Justin Jefferson best WRs in the modern-day game, but the way he was locked in this particular showdown, gave plenty of ideas to each team how they can stop Vikings’ main man. Will this ‘double-marking experience be a lesson of learning for Jefferson? Remains to be seen.
