As the world slowly begins to accept the LGBTQ community, more and more people have been coming out of the closet.
And, it is big news when an athlete or celebrity comes out. Recently, in the NFL, Carl Nassib, a defensive end for the Las Vegas Raiders became the first openly gay NFL player.
On the 21st of June, Nassib posted a video on Instagram to say that he was gay. “I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay,” Nassib began the video, before going on to explain how he had wanted to ‘come out’ in quite a while.
Carl Nassib NFL Career
Carl Nassib made his NFL debut in 2016 for the Cleveland Browns after he was picked as number 65 in round 3 of the 2016 NFL draft. Nassib is currently 28 years old.
He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, two years later, and spent two seasons there. Nassib currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders.
He signed a three-year contract worth $25 million with the Raiders in March 2020.

Carl Nassib made history on the 13th of September, 2021 when he featured for the Las Vegas Raiders on their opening game of the 2021 NFL season. The Raiders took on the Baltimore Ravens at the Allegiant Stadium.
It was his strip-sack of Lamar Jackson in Overtime that helped the Raiders regain possession and earn the match-winning touchdown. The Raiders won the contest 33-27.
By featuring for the Raiders, Nassib became the first openly gay NFL player to contest in an NFL match (his first since coming out).
