George Pickens has had his moments in the 2022-23 season yet his role in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has hasn’t done wonders for him. In the team’s latest match against the Atlanta Falcons, the rookie wideout reached his boiling points as he evidently showcased his frustration with the team with some NSFW language.
However, as many expected the coach to fire-out on him, Mike Tomlin clearly indicated that he had no issues with his rookie wideout being so competitive and wanting to have a bigger role that has been offered.
Mike Tomlin on George Pickens’ frustrations, as per Brooke Pryor, “I’d rather say whoa than sic ’em. I want a guy that wants to be a significant part of what it is we do … the mature way to express that, we’re working on. That competitive spirit of a guy that wants the ball, I want that guy.”
George Pickens on his outburst during Falcons
George Pickens has proved his worth and perhaps wants more of the ball to showcase his true caliber and the threat he can pose.
“Before we start this, I ain’t gonna be just saying stuff for you all to just paint a story (and) make a statement bigger than what it is, or make something bigger than what it is,” Pickens said. “Don’t try to make something it’s not, cause every player, literally every receiver in the past before – you got T.O. – I can name so many names. It’s just what you want to make it out to be.”
To talk particularly about his stats – George Pickens has reeled in 37 receptions for 512 yards and two TouchDowns. That being said, Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens this weekend and will be hoping to grab their third win in a row.
