Earlier this month, there were reports that the New York Giants were looking to trade their star running-back Saquon Barkley which came as a surprise for many people as he is arguably their best player.
Barkley is certainly one of the most important players on this team but his future was uncertain due to rumors about the Giants going on a rebuild this season. With a player of Saquon Barkley’s quality available on the market, there would have been massive interest in him as he is a difference-maker on the field.
Recently the New York Giants owner John Mara was asked about the future of Saquon Barkley and he said, “We’re not shopping Saquon, but Joe’s the general manager, If he and the head coach want to make a personnel decision and have a conviction about it, I’m not gonna interfere with it. But that’s not something we’re actively looking to do, let’s put it that way.”

However, the New York Giants owner hasn’t ruled out a trade yet for the star running-back and has left the decision to be made by the General Manager of the team.
He further talked about the marketability of Saquon that can impact the trade as he attracts fans on the field for this New York team that lacks star power and said, “I’m certainly conscious of that but I don’t think it’s a major factor,”
He added, “At the end of the day, I want us to put the best possible team on the field and build for the future. So I like him. He’s been a great representative for us. I still think he’s a really good player. He could potentially have a very big year this year. But at the end of the day, the head coach and general manager make those decisions.”
With many months still left for the season to begin, anything can happen and we may still see a player like Saquon Barkley traded to another team that can benefit from him as he is a player who will improve the team around him.
