Russell Wilson was acquired by the Denver Broncos in the concluded offseason with major expectations of leading the franchise to the playoffs, just like how he had been doing previously.
However, after his substandard performances since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, it seems like the veteran Quarterback is not being able to fit into the Denver Broncos’ offensive unit completely. Which has made analyst – Marcus Spears only feel like Russell Wilson is on the verge of becoming Drew Locks 2.0.
To bring everyone on the same page and to talk about how Broncos have performed offensively so far – Nathaniel Hackett’s team have scored more than 20 points once in five games, with 16 or fewer points in the other four. In these 6 games of the 2022-23 season, Russell Wilson has missed throws, clutch ones – more importantly, been invisible on the field and struggled to get on the same page with teammates and coaches.
Marcus Spears quoted on the latest episode of Get Up, “He is Drew Locks 2.0 – is what he is right now. The entire talk with Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos was that the AFC West is gonna be the best division in NFL History. I came here – people say, ‘This is what Seattle knew.’ Seattle didn’t know this. You’ve paid $240 Million for your QB to overcome such obstacles, but Russ ain’t doing that. He ain’t making hibachi, appetisers, he ain’t cooking nothing.”
Safe to say for all of head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s flaws, Wilson’s play is surpassing him as the biggest problem in Broncos’ country. Given that the Denver Broncos is amongst the team with the worst record so far in the 2022-23 regular season, could this be the greatest comeback for Russell Wilson – in his career? Or perhaps it is going to get a lot worse? Remains to be seen as we speculate Week 7 footballing action.
