The rumor mill in the NFL world shows that Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract restructuring was not taken well ‘in private’ by marquee Trey Lance. To add to this same notion, sports media’s veteran analyst Skip Bayless threw major shades at the 30-year-old Quarterback as no team came forward to gain his services ahead of the season opener of the 2022-23 season.
The assumption of almost everyone in the NFL world was that Jimmy Garoppolo was look to cement his place in a different team, after Lance took his first-place honors. To the former’s dismay, the Niners failed to find a satisfactory deal. Eventually both parties got together in the past week to frame a new one-year contract with a guaranteed $6.5 Million pay-check. While this has ensured Jimmy G off his presence in the league, Bayless was in no mood to letting it go with ease.
In a heated discussion with Shannon Sharpe on the latest episode of Undisputed, the 70-year-old analyst suggested, “It looks like they (San Francisco 49ers) shopped everywhere for Jimmy Garoppolo, and nobody even sniffed for him. If he was willing to take up backup money to stay and say, ‘I’m happy being here, I’ll carry your clipboard.’”
Skip Bayless outrightly disses Jimmy Garoppolo for losing his ‘Spark’
When Sharpe asked why does Skip care on the specifications ‘why’ no other wanted Jimmy G, he urged, “Who wouldn’t want Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup Quarterback, he has taken a team to the Super Bowl, a team to the NFC Championship Game, who wouldn’t want that, as your Plan B?”
It is not just Bayless, but the surprise turn-of0events was even a shock for the concerned personnel and he stated that returning, ‘wasn’t on his mind.’ On one hand where Kyle Shanahan informed the media about Lance’s gratitude knowing that Jimmy has been retained, there was been rumors circulating in the wind-mill depicting otherwise.
Trey Lance is undoubtedly the starter for Niners as they look to make a fresh bid for the Super Bowl this season. It is indeed safe to assume that Jimmy Garoppolo’s presence is surely going to add more pressure on his performance and work rates. Well, let’s hope that we witness the veteran QB in action in the 2022-23 season sooner rather than later, but what price and situation will make him step out on the field for San Francisco? Remains to be seen.
