When Pittsburgh Steelers released their official depth charts ahead of the 2022-23 season opener, not many could believe first-round pick Kenny Pickett being placed behind Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. While there has been some catastrophe ever since, head coach, Mike Tomlin decided to give answers for the same.

One needs to understand that it is the first time in 18 years that Steelers are without a ‘main-man’ as their center, especially after Ben Roethlisberger decided to hang up his boots to enjoy the Podcast-life. Having to make some bold changes, Pittsburgh decided to take their chances with Mitch Trubisky leading the charge.

Having tasted success in the past and currently looking for a fresh start, Tomlin stated just how and why they were impressed with the work rate of the former No. 2 overall pick. “His (Mitch Trubisky) athleticism and mobility were attractive to us. He took care of the football in-stadium, all our quarterbacks did.”

Tomlin added, “He’s a guy that came to us with franchise quarterback experience. He’s comfortable in those shoes. He’s been the focal point of a football team, in the organization before. He’s had success in doing so. Like I mentioned, when we acquired him, he took the Bears to the playoffs two out of four years. He has a winning record as a starting quarterback. Those things were attractive to us.”

Trubisky was always viewed as a highly draft pick, giving his explosive speed, pace to understand the game and vision. However, he went onto serve as a back-up after just four years in the NFL. So, this opportunity could be one for the books for Mitch Trubisky, who is desperately in need to turn the tie in his favor.

This is one of the primary reasons why Mitch Trubisky was ranked No.32 in the Ringers’ list of QB. Lastly, the fate of this team would be dependent upon Trubisky adjusting to the role and efficiency as a passer. If he were to play by his strengths, there is no doubt that the Pittsburgh Steelers could make a name for themselves in the 2022-23 season.
