Seattle Seahawks might not be as dominant as Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles midway through the 2022-23 season. With the likes of Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts being the top candidates for the MVP accolade, there is no denying that #7, Geno Smith does deserve a valid chance in being in the same conversation.
While Allen and Hurts have both exceptional – it has been largely due to their team, who have helped them register great scores as well. If one might have to think, Geno Smith’s accuracy charts are way better than anyone else’s, especially after the end of Russell Wilson-era in Seattle. This ensured that Dan Orlovsky made a valid case for the latter’s MVP aspirations on the latest episode of Get Up.
To bring everyone on the same – let us discus individual number of Geno Smith. The 32-year-old has thrown for 1,924 yards, 13 TouchDowns and three interceptions through the course of the initial eight games in the current regular season. While most of his stats don’t line up with quarterbacks like Bills’ Josh Allen and Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, his 107.2 passer rating is third-best in the league as of writing.
“There is no quarterback that has more perfect throws in every game than Geno Smith. … There’s one quarterback in the NFL this season with less than 10% of his throws off-target, the only person is Geno Smith,” Orlovsky said. “That’s why he’s right in the MVP race. He has more perfect throws than any guy in the league right now.”‘
That being said, on a much-more practical note – it is highly possible Geno Smith might not win the MVP accolade, yet he certainly deserves the credit for leading the team from the front. With a franchise that traded their long-term idol, Smith has done a fabulous job taking over the center stage.
