Matt Rhule has undoubted one of the best footballing acumen modern-day fans have ever seen. After being acquired by Carolina Panthers to lead its team, Rhule faced an uphill task reviving the fortunes of former Super Bowl contenders. Moreover, his job wasn’t made any easier by the lack of a top-notch Quarterback to call the shots.
With the team too making a habit of drafting total busts, Matt Rhule was handed a sack in October 2022. Being his third season with four losses in five games, the outcome only seemed to be a matter of time as all of Panthers’ fan-base lost their trust in Rhule.
However, with one chance taken away from his clutches. Matt was given another chance with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. On Saturday, he signed an eight-year contract with the team to be their next coach. He was introduced in a news conference on Monday as per the university announcement.
There are no doubts that Matt will be bringing NFL pedigree to a college program that has been starved of success for many years. While fans will be hoping that Rhule’s NFL form isn’t carried down to the NCAA tournament, there are no doubts that he has the potential to chance the fortune of this particular team altogether.
“It is a tremendous honor to be chosen to lead the Nebraska football program,” Rhule said in a statement. “When you think of great, tradition-rich programs in college football, Nebraska is right at the top of the list. The fan base is second to none, and I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to coach in Memorial Stadium on Tom Osborne Field. My family and I are so grateful to become a part of the Husker Family, and we can’t wait to get started.”
Although Nebraska is yet to reveal the official contract of Matt Rhule – let us take a look at his previous contracts and earnings. Knowing that just like everyone Matt would also be looking to move his forward in life, he left with about $40 million remaining on the seven-year, guaranteed $62 million contract he signed in 2020. The contract made Rhule the sixth-highest paid coach in the NFL when he signed in 2020, according to Forbes.
