If there is one young Quarterback who seems to be looked out for, by every analyst – it is the San Francisco 49ers’ trump card – Trey Lance. Expected to have a Patrick Mahomes Year 2 breakout, Peyton Manning shared some insights on how Lance could learn, rather than rushing into the peak of stardom.
Trey lance’s performance is so looked for because of veteran Jimmy Garoppolo having to back him up. When Niners committed to the 22-year-old as their #1 QB, many expected him to showcase just why he was one of five-round QBslooking to leap forward in Year 2.
Peyton Manning narrated his own incidents to state how Trey Lance could learn over the period of time and not rush into the process. He stated on the Colin Cowherd podcast, “But for Trey, to me – it is about the reps. Anytime you’re in Quarterback competition or not getting on the field, your accuracy, decision making, play is always going to be challenged. The best way to learn – is on the field. I had 28 interceptions as a rookie, won 3 games but what I learned in that very Rookie season – there is no way we are going to go 13-3 next year.
To think about it Trey lance and Patrick Mahomes are entering their Year 2 on the same trajectory. Both were raw Quarterback prospects who at their rookie seasons behind seasoned veterans, before eventually taking over under center in defensive system loaded with stars and talent.
The former first-round pick added, “You don’t get (competitive exposure) in the practice, don’t that in the preseason, you get that in the game. Division games are faster than non-division games, Playoff games are faster than regular season, right? So, for Trey Lance – just getting him in there and let him learn, hopefully you can win at the same time. Moreover, the supporting cast around Trey Lance, they can give him a chance of success.”
While Mahomes threw over 5,000 yards, 50 TouchDowns, with just 12 interceptions in his sophomore year. Will Trey lance be able to replicate the same magic? Well, all speculations will be answered shortly as Lance would lead Niners’ offense in Week 1 against the rigid Chicago Bears in a just a couple of days.
