If anyone had doubts regarding the prowess and leadership of 23-year-old, Justin Fields – then the battle against the San Antonio 49ers was a shutting reply. What’s even more impressive? The field had a poor first half yet bounced back to show his true ability in the second half to inspire his team to victory.

In the first half, Justin Field completed only 3-of-9 passes for 19 yards, while being sacked twice. But he came in the second half – all pumped up to change his tune for good. Fields used his athleticism to escape pressure, extended plays – which was monumental in the other players scoring three consecutive TouchDowns in the third quarter.

Perhaps one would agree that the Chicago Bears’ defense swarming and Justin Fields being at the peak of his powers in the second half, was the recipe for opening the Matt Eberflus era with a 19-10 win on Sunday.

Colin Cowherd leaves scope of improvement for Justin Fields even after Bears upset 49ers

From the initial minutes of the second half, Fields had fetched the limelight. He opened the third quarter with an electrifying big play. After which, he marched the Bears 84 yards in 10 plays, hitting E St.Brown for an 18-yard TouchDown to give his team the lead. This made everyone realize that the Bears’ best offense was Justin Fields’ defense.

Cowherd quoted about the 23-year-old, “But I will say this for Justin Fields – he avoided the offensive line of the Bears – which is the bottom 5 or 8 in the league. Justin Fields also did a good job to avoid punishment, to make something out of virtually nothing. I think it’s really nice football (traits) – but it’s still a work in progress.”

Fields finished the Week 1 showdown with a tally of 8-for-17 for 121 yards, 2 TouchDowns and 1 interception. The 23-year-old sensation added 30 yards on the ground. However, one wouldn’t consider it the ideal stats line, but it was Fields’ improvisation with led Bears to cause an upset over the 49ers.
