The Chiefs drafted two promising defensive players in the first round of the NFL Draft 2022.
The Kansas City Chiefs have always been among the contenders for the Super Bowl every season since Patrick Mahomes has been their starting quarterback. They have been to 4 straight AFC Championship Games since Mahomes has become their starting QB, and have also won a Super Bowl in the Process.
However, they needed to add some key pieces to their roster ahead of the next season via the NFL Draft 2022. As some of their important players have left the franchise, they needed to fill that void to remain in contention.
With the 23rd overall pick in the NFL Draft 2022, the Chiefs acquired Trent McDuffie from Washington, who is a cornerback, and was among the best players at his position in college last season. He will fill the void left by Charvarius Ward, and this is a solid pick by the Chiefs, as they traded up to acquire him.
Another addition that the Chiefs made during the NFL Draft 2022 was George Karlaftis the Defensive-End from Purdue. He was drafted with the 30th overall pick by the Chiefs. Karlaftis is a solid edge rusher, and this was a position where the Chiefs wanted to strengthen themselves ahead of the next season.
The Chiefs’ defense was quite poor last season, but on the first day of the Draft itself they have added up two strong pieces, who could improve their defense massively.
The Chiefs didn’t go for a Wide Receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft 2022
Many people expected that the Chiefs will draft a Wide Receiver when they traded up to acquire a better draft spot. However, the Chiefs wanted to improve their defense first, and it was pretty understandable.
The departure of Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins had the Chiefs fans wondering whether or not the franchise will replace him directly with a solid talent in the 1st round.
Surprisingly, the Chiefs didn’t gamble on any of the top picks as their offense is still very good led by Mahomes, Kelce, Juju, and MVS. However, we can see them getting a steal in the later rounds of the draft, just like they did with Tyreek Hill.
