Marcus Mariota recently signed with the Atlanta Falcons
Marcus Mariota had signed for the Atlanta Falcons for a 2 year, $18,750,000 contract with the Atlanta Falcons, to replace Matt Ryan who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts a few days ago.
Mariota will have a tough task ahead of him as he will be stepping in place for a quarterback who has been arguably the greatest Falcon player ever as he seeks to make a comeback in the NFL as a starting quarterback.
Marcus had played for the Las Vegas Raiders last season where he was a backup to Derek Carr but this move to the Falcons might give him the role of a starter for the first time after he was benched at the Tennessee Titans following a bad run of form.
He has an opportunity to reunite with Arthur Smith. He was his offensive coordinator at the Titans and will now be his head coach. It will help him to settle easily here.
Speaking after his arrival in Atlanta, Marcus Mariota said, “It really came down to the opportunity. Obviously, he said there’s a chance for you to play, a chance for you to start right away, Really, for me, at this point in time of my career, that’s what I was looking for. No matter what the situation is, I have to my best to lead these guys and help these guys become the best of their abilities.“
Marcus further spoke and said, “That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m the starter. I can very well be the backup and do those types of things, and that’s what I’ve learned. But I know that with Art, he’s always going to be honest with me and I can really put forth my best foot forward and see what I can do.”
He added, “I’ve learned a lot over the course of the last, even really three years going back to that season in 2019, I was both mentally and physically beat up. I think this is a great opportunity for me to kind of showcase what I’ve learned over the course of the last couple of years. Being around guys like Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr — guys that have played at a really high level.“
This really is a very good opportunity for Marcus Mariota to make his name back in the NFL. He now has a chance to carry this franchise. And doesn’t have immense pressure on him which will be helpful for him.
