Melvin Gordon on the verge of re-signing with Broncos ahead of free agency

Two-time Pro Bowler Melvin Gordon believes he has unfinished business with the Denver Broncos.

Melvin Gordon is on the verge of becoming a free agent. But given the choice, he would much rather prefer to remain put in Denver with the Broncos for the upcoming NFL season.

Even the Broncos want him to extend his stay at the franchise. Now, all that remains to be seen is whether the two parties can come together and strike a deal.

Gordon signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos in 2020 which was worth a whopping $16 million. He had previously spent five season with the LA Chargers.

Broncos GM George Paton also believes that Gordon is capable of being the lead carrier in the team’s stable of ball-carriers. He also stressed on how Gordon struck a fruitful partnership with Javonte Williams last year. However, if Gordon is demanding another $8 million per year deal, the Broncos are likely to decline any potential contract extension.

While speaking to reporters recently, Gordon claimed that he still remains determined to win a championship with the Broncos. It also sparked rumours that the Broncos may opt to give Gordon another contract before he hits the free market.

I have been wanting to come back. I would love to win a championship in Denver. I made a lot of great relationships with the guys. I feel like we have a really good team. To leave a talented team and go somewhere else would suck,” said Gordon.

He further added, “It’s a job unfinished, and we need to finish the job. I would love to stay. I talked with (general manager) George (Paton). We spoke on it. He told me he thinks highly of me. I really like the way he runs things and does things.
