Zach Wilson’s arrival in New York Jets’ 2022-23 season opener against Baltimore opener would increase the attacking prowess of Mike LaFleur’s offense, but also substantially be a huge boost for the fan base to witness the electrifying second-year quarterback. Coach Robert Saleh has indeed let the door wide open for his marquee player to make an optimistic return since Game 1 on Sunday.
To those who are not aware Zach Wilson was side-lined after the preseason opener in Philadelphia on August 12. Making his return on the field, in less than a month Robert Saleh urged how his 23-year-old quarterback seemed good while testing out his surgically repaired right knee.
While fans know that the New York based franchise would not be rushing with their decision to start Zach Wilson or Joe Flacco. The coach was determined on keeping a specific game plan for the season opener. He said, “It does nothing for us from game plan standpoint. Everyone heals differently, and we’ll see what happens.”
Will Coach Robert be willing to use Zach Wilson in the season opener?
To bring everyone on the same page, Zach Wilson suffered from a bone bruise and torn meniscus previously. This wasn’t the first time that the ghost of injury has haunted the 23-year-old QB. Wilson also struggled in the beginning of his rookie year wherein he missed four games with a sprained PCL in his right knee.
New York Nets’ head coach has always shown great confidence in Zach Wilson. He has already emphasized on not rushing with the latter’s injury at any point.
“Eventually, he’s got to get back in there,” Saleh said. “Whether it’s this week, next week, the week after, it doesn’t matter. So, you just have to rip the Band-Aid off. When Zach Wilson’s ready to play and he’s healthy. Like I’ve said from the beginning, when Zach is healthy and he feels good, he is going to play football.”
Lastly, the challenge for this 23-year-old would be to fit into the offensive system as quickly as possible with a smaller groove. Having shown signs of pace, improvement and quick decision making, will we see Wilson exploding in the 2022-23 NFL Season?
