The hyped matchup between Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs resulted in Patrick Mahomes out-playing Tom Brady in a 1-on-1 battle to lead his side to their 3rd victory of the 2022-23 NFL Season.
Having passed for 249 yards and 3 TouchDowns with one interception, Patrick Mahomes surely was the MVP of this game – who even ensured that the Chiefs have a splendid 28-10 lead entering the halftime. This made Hall of Famer turned analyst – Shannon Sharpe in awe of his prowess, especially when the odds were stagged against him.
Shannon Sharpe quoted on the latest episode of Undisputed, “Patrick Mahomes can do things very few Quarterbacks can do. You just saw the TouchDown…that we just saw. Tom Brady is not making that play. No matter what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense tried, they tried to cover him, they tried 1-on-1, Mahomes was a step ahead.”
Shannon Sharpe places Patrick Mahomes ahead of Tom Brady
Tom Brady did have his moments in the game, but it was Patrick Mahomes who was visible throughout the field with his splashy moves and explicit accuracy. In the hyped Super Bowl rematch, it seemed like Mahomes had to avenge the demons of his past and he did just that since the first minute of the showdown.
Shannon Sharpe added, “You win ball games by scoring TouchDowns not by kicking field goals. The Kansas City Chiefs outplayed the Bucs last night.”
Sharpe did raise a valid point, although the Bucs defense, who is rated #1 in the 2022-23 season did strategize to stop Mahomes from playing his A-Game. Yet the former MVP seemed to be unstoppable as he even brought majority of his teammates into the game with precise moves and plays. That being said, it only goes onto show how one can never undermine Patrick Mahomes, even after a bad matchday when he costed his team a win. Will we witness more of the same from Mahomes in the coming weeks? Remains to be seen. But for Tampa Bay – they surely need their marquee stars to bounce back from injury sooner rather than later.
