The 2022-23 MVP race in an unpredictable affair. With Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts being the front runners after the end of Week 12, the likes of Tua Tagovailoa are quickly catching up upon them. The first to acknowledge this is Hall of Famer turned analyst – Shannon Sharpe.
What’s more impressive is that before the start of the current season, Patrick Mahomes had no hype behind him. The way he lost out in the previous playoffs, made everyone lose their interest in the MVP candidature of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Quarterback.
Shannon Sharpe said in the latest episode of Undisputed, “Patrick Mahomes is the MVP. He’s got 6 games to go… he’s averaging 326 yards in a game. He’s going to break the 5,000 yards plateau. He has 29 TouchDowns, has 6 more games to throw 11 to reach 40. So, you’re looking at a guy…without anything drastic happen, gonna be 5,040 and heading towards #1 seed in the AFC.”
Shannon Sharpe urges why Patrick Mahomes is leading the MVP race
One had to also know that Mahomes hasn’t been at his best on numerous occasions, where he has been pressurized by the oppositions to commit mistakes. More so, he has not always found open guys in clutch situation.
Sharpe added, “Mahomes has 1,000 yards passing ahead of Hurts. Mahomes is second in QBR, Hurts is third…fourth. He’s played unbelievable and Patrick Mahomes is the MVP.”
Sharpe concluded by stating that Patrick Mahomes should not be at ease as Tua Tagovailoa is quickly catching up to the top spot for the MVP accolade. Given that Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have been mightily impressive, Tua seems to make the most out of his abilities to leave an impact for the MVP accolade.
