One big name that could’ve departed from Hollywood ahead of trade deadline day was Cam Akers. The running back had plenty of issues with the defending champions, as a result of which he was included in multiple trade offers to the Carolina Panthers. That too, being one of the many teams who were interested in acquiring the RB.
However, as per Tom Pelissero of NFL.com, the Los Angeles Rams passed onto all of those offers for Cam Akers, as the team is looking to keep him with them until the end of this season at least. To those who are unaware, the Rams included Akers in a Christian McCaffrey proposal that also included two Day 2 picks. They also included him as a throw-in, in a Brian Burns offer headlined by 2024 and 2025 first-rounders.
Cam Akers was sensational before his Achilles tear. Although, he did make a quick recovery, but majority would agree that he hasn’t been the same even when he returned for LA Rams’ playoff games last time around.
How can Cam Akers help Rams reach on top?
Cam Akers’ issues with the Los Angeles Rams has been going on since Week 6, when the defending champions deactivated him after excused practice absences. It was evident that Rams’ pursuit was a desperate attempt to upgrade at running back.
That being said, Cam Akers would only be able to help the Rams change their season around when and if he returns to his rookie season heroics. With the team already ranking 3rd in the NFC West, they are behind both San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, with a tally of 3-4 in the 2022-23 regular season. Is there any more drama in Cam Akers and Los Angeles Rams’ relationship? Remains to be seen.
