The future of Russell Wilson at the Seattle Seahawks was uncertain since the last season. And now it is confirmed that he will not be a part of the franchise next season.
The Seattle Seahawks drafted him and he led the team to their first and only Super Bowl triumph which was in 2014.
Russell Wilson cemented himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He was the subject of interest of many teams heading into the offseason.
It was the Denver Broncos who were able to secure him via trade. They wanted to contend for a Super Bowl and Wilson was the type of player who can lead them to the promised land.
The Broncos’ squad just needed an elite quarterback. As their all-around team was good enough and now they have got their quarterback who can help them.
The Denver Broncos were heavily interested in Aaron Rodgers. But earlier during the day, Rodgers announced that he will be staying with the Packers. He signed a new contract which led to the Broncos pursuing Russell Wilson.
In return for Russell Wilson, The Seattle Seahawks received Drew Lock, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, two 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks, and a 5th round pick.
The assets that the Seahawks received for Wilson can be used to get a very good franchise quarterback in the future.
The AFC West is now the toughest division in NFL with the likes of Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos.
All these teams have elite quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Derek Carr, and Russell Wilson.
It will be a tough path for Wilson to reach the promised land as the whole AFC is way tougher than the NFC. And his division itself will be the toughest in the league.
Russell Wilson will be excited to join his new team. And prove to the world that he can help them to contend for a Super Bowl despite the obstacles in front of him.
