“Shanahan finally has a dual-threat QB again”: Nick Wright makes bold prediction about the San Francisco 49ers and Trey Lance ahead of the new NFL season

If there is one quarterback who is expected to be on the verge of greatness as per analyst Nick Wright, is none other than Francisco 49ers’ marquee, Trey Lance. The latter being an incredibly accurate QB has heaps of expectations to fulfil, and ahead of the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Given that the 22-year-old has had a relatively productive preseason, wherein he has gone 11-for-16 for 141 yards, with just one TouchDown, it has represented a passer rating of 116.9%. Which was enough to convince sports media personality, Nick Wright about the mammoth-season incoming for Trey Lance, especially over Jimmy Garoppolo.

Wright wrote in his latest tweet, “The 49ers will be the best team in the NFC by the end of the season. The defense, running game & coaching will all carryover from last season, and once Trey gets some reps, he will be a significant upgrade over Jimmy. Shanahan finally has a dual threat QB again.”

Is Trey Lance ready to take the ultimate leap with 49ers?

Given that the San Francisco 49ers direly needed dynamism and playmaking when they gained Trey Lance in the 2021 Draft, we surely haven’t seen him exploding on the grandest stage.

To be completely honest about his preseason performance, Lance wasn’t able to make one impactful play outside of a 76-yard TD to Danny Gray in the first preseason showdown. To think about it, if 54% of your passing yards are being registered from one particular play, it could be a cause of worry.

In the preseason tally, Trey Lance’s yards-per-attempt tally stands at 8.8, which is indeed impressive. However, that spoken of 76-yard pass plummets to a staggering tally of 4.33 itself. Although it is not fair to completely remove that touchdown out of the equation yet it only goes onto hide how inconsistent Lance could have been, if not for that one play.

That being said, with veteran Jimmy Garoppolo still lurking on the side-lines, the 49ers could materialize something around his passing prowess. Having being extensively criticized for his performance in the playoffs last time around, will we witness the 30-year-old giving a sturdy competition to the #1 choice?
