“This was the steal of the century”: Skip Bayless lauds the addition of Baker Mayfield by the Carolina Panthers ahead of the season opener

Baker Mayfield has surely made Carolina Panthers one of the most highly rated underdogs before the start of the 2022-23 NFL Season. The latest believer to showcase his/her trust in this franchise is sports media’s veteran personality – Skip Bayless.

With the franchise really struggling to make an impact, especially with their four-year postseason drought Bayless, urged how Mayfield’s inclusion can turn the tie in the franchise’s favor. The 70-year-old analyst raises a valid point as Panthers also arguably have their best roster since their last playoff push in 2017.

On the latest episode of Undisputed, Bayless detailed, “So, Browns open on 3.5 points favorite and all of a sudden, they are 2.5-point (under) dog. Now my math serves me – it is a 6-point swing. You don’t see that often in a National Football League game. It is because of Baker Mayfield. As you once said on this show, ‘Shake and Make Baby.’”

While Shannon Sharpe still believes, it is going to be Browns who would emerge victorious on Sunday, despite their significant drop off between Jacoby Brissett and Deshaun Watson. Bayless stood by his stance for ‘Charismatic and Passionate’ Baker Mayfield.

Skip Bayless shows optimism for Baker Mayfield leading Panthers against former team – Browns in season opener

There is no doubt in stating that Mayfield would be eager to right his past wrongs as a pro-signal caller and make magic with his new team. Interestingly, his first chance of doing so will come against his former team, which made him a pro.

“I told you – I was the first to guess this as the Steal of the century. They got it for a conditional fourth round pick in 2024. Are you kidding me?”

Skip Bayless stressed upon how Baker Mayfield still ended up joining the Carolina Panthers even though they were ranked 32nd in the entire tally of teams during the off-season. The 27-year-old quarterback took a $3.5 Million pay cut, only to encash it into ‘unmakable incentives.’

Skip Bayless concluded by stating, “The point is Baker Mayfield said, ‘I’m gonna virtually walk on – like I did in Texas Tech and Oklahoma – I wanna walk on in Carolina because you guys are really good. I’m gonna be your lightening rod.’”

Given that Baker Mayfield has already shown his disappointment with Cleveland Browns, when they opted for Deshaun Watson as their #1 Quarterback, stakes are surely going to get high on Sunday.
