Tyrann Mathieu, the former Chiefs’ safety, discussed his departure from the team following the end of his contract
It will be unusual for us to say that, but Tyrann Mathieu will no longer be a part of the Kansas City Chiefs since the Chiefs’ safety contract has ended, and there are no longer talks about extending his contract.
Tyrann was an essential part of the Chiefs’ success since Patrick Mahomes became a starter for them, as they went to 4 AFC Championship Games and two straight Super Bowls while also winning one in 2020 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Definitely their best player and leader on defense, Tyrann was devastated that he wasn’t offered a contract extension as he loved being a part of the franchise.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Texans safety Justin Reid as the replacement for Tyrann and offered him a three-year, $31.5 million contract, as the franchise was looking for a younger option at that position.
Tyrann further talked about it and said, “To be honest, if they would’ve offered me Justin Reid’s deal, obviously I would’ve tried to negotiate, but if that’s where they drew their line in the sand, I probably would’ve took it, I probably would’ve took it. Agents are going to do their thing, but at the end of the day, it’s the player’s decision whether to sign it or not.”
Mathieu wanted to stay in Kansas City, but the Chiefs had other plans as they look to kick off a new era following the departure of two-star players Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu, who both contributed greatly to the Chiefs’ success during the past four years.
