Ja’Marr Chase was last season’s AP Offensive Rookie of the Year but it seems like he met his match when the Cincinnati Bengals locked horns against the New York Jets on Saturday. To bring everyone on the same page, the latter was the former University of Cincinnati standout – chosen No. 4 overall pick by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft.
On one hand where things got a little testy between the game in both the respective No. 1 jersey holders, they exchanged pleasantries after the game, showcasing the respect they have for one another. On a special 1v1 instance, Gardner rose up to the occasion to break up a deep ball that Joe Burrow lofted for Ja’Marr Chase in the first half.
Take a look at the video above, to know what it meant for Gardner as it left Ja’Marr Chase frustrated. Perhaps that is just when things started to get a little heated between the duo – getting even more physical.
Later in the encounter on Saturday, there was a little physical contact after a play as Ja’Marr Chase wanted to instigate a banter with Gardner. While the latter was celebrating in his own manner, Chase bumped his shoulders with Gardener. After which a little shoving ensued, but nothing serious escalated.
That being said, Ja’Marr Chase did manage to score his only TouchDown of the game on a play where it appeared Sauce thought another player would pick up the Cincinnati Bengals receiver in coverage. On the other hand, the Bengals outscored Jets in every quarter and managed to register their first win of the season 27-12.
The New York Jets suffered their second loss of that 2022-23 season as Joe Flacco was 28 of 52 for 285 yards and 2 interceptions and was under pressure all game. While talking about the other marquee QB- Joe Burrow was 8 of 10 for 95 yards.
