The stage for football’s mega showdown, FIFA World Cup is already up and running in Qatar. With the likes of France, Brazil, Portugal and England being first of the many nations to make it into the knockout stage, Antoine Griezmann was one star who decided to bring out the world-famous NFL celebration in his team’s last group stage game.
With Tunisia leading 1-0, in what would’ve been there third victory ever in the World Cup Finals ever, France decided to bring out their attacking prowess from the bench. Now that the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Dembele, and Griezmann all out of the pitch, the Atletico Madrid man scored a last kick equalizer to break by Tunisian hearts.
With the opposition failing to clear out a cross, Antoine Griezmann was first to get on the ball to ease past it, in the back of the net. Afterward, the 31-year-old busted out the “Waddle” celebration, made famous by star receiver Jaylen Waddle of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.
Griezmann had already started celebrating a last-kick thrilling equalizer. But just when the game seemed to have reached its end, referee went ahead to the VAR Board to check for a possible-off side, resulting in the goal to be cancelled out.
While we have seen Jaylen Waddle hitting his ‘celly’ celebration is full swag time and again in the NFL, it was nice to witness the American celebration being taken over the global stage by a European international icon.
That being said, France suffered a 1-0 loss on the last matchday’s action yet have secured their #1 seed in Group D with 6 points, with Australia following them up in second place into the knockout stage.
