It seems like the demons of 2021-22 NFL Season have caught up with Patrick Mahomes once again. The marquee Quarterback took the limelight once again, but not in a positive manner as the Indianapolis Colts’ defense went onto stun them on Saturday, to cause an upset.
The Colts held the Chiefs to only 17 points, including just 3 in the entire second half, which was interestingly the lowest since November. To make matters worse for Patrick Mahomes, he was 20-of-35 for 262 yards, one TouchDown, and one interception. He even made the deciding play, but unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts- who tied Houston Texans in Week 1 and dropped to Jacksonville Jaguars in the next showdown.
Yannick Ngakoue captured the lone sack – being his first as a Colt, forcing Patrick Mahomes off his spot with numerous pressures. Kwity Paye and Buckner played a huge role as well as the unpredictable Colts went onto stunt the dominant Chiefs.
Being one of the biggest disappointments of the AFC so far in the current season, looked certain to withstand more misery when Patrick Mahomes led his team to 14-10 at halftime. But it was a story of disagreement with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Patrick Mahomes, which ensured that the Kansas City Chiefs slip even further in the contest. The star QB oversaw a group that went just 3 of 10 on third downs.
But it wasn’t only Mahomes who was at fault, the entire Chiefs looked lackluster and in the end the result became evident. And it has to be said that apart from Patrick Mahomes – Matt Ammendola and Chris Jones also deserve a fair share of criticism for this dis heartening loss.
That being said, this deciding/clutch play from Patrick Mahomes is surely going to bring him under the hammer from analysts, who have constantly questioned his consistency ahead of the 2022-23 Season. But the important question is – was this a momentary lapse? Or a summary of how the season might turn out for Mahomes?
