With Aaron Rodgers leading the offensive strategies for Green Bay Packers, the reigning MVP was without two of his top three receivers from last season. Not only that, even the likes of Allen Lazard were missing due to an ankle injury, which the left the former QB open on the field with plethora of young receivers – Randall Cobb, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Sammy Watkins.
This combination surely did not work for the reigning MVP – Aaron Rodgers as he completed just 22 of 34 passes for 195 yards with no TouchDowns and an interception in the Week 1 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. The number 2 running back, A.J.Dillon was his leading receiver with five catches for 46 yards.
What fans could witness on the very first offensive play for the Packers, when the team were trailing 0-7 in the first quarter – Aaron Rodgers threw a mighty bomb to a wide-open Christian Watson. But the results were catastrophic as the latter went onto drop the drop, finishing with just two catches for 34 yards.
After the heart-breaking loss in the inaugural week, one would expect Aaron Rodgers to be vicious with his young receivers, but it is quite the opposite. He said, “We gotta have patience with those guys. There are going to be drops. Hate to see that on the first play, but there are going to be drops.”
The drop clearly set to have dismantled the morale of these young receivers as Watson and Doubs only managed to combine for 6 catches and 71 yards. While Aaron Rodgers was desperately seeking for help in the opening showdown. But it only goes onto show, what needs to be improved and worked upon if the Packers are willing to register results in their favor.
Not only was Aaron Rodgers after several plays, but even the absence of top two tackles – David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins haunted the team as it clearly disrupted the flow of offense, in their match against the Vikings.
