The Cleveland Browns were able to get Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans and gave him a huge contract. They see him as their franchise quarterback, which made it clear that they are looking forward to moving on from Mayfield.
Baker himself is looking to join another team, but so far, interest in him hasn’t been that high. As a result, he is stuck with the Browns. On the other hand, the franchise is in a tricky situation itself. Deshaun Watson is likely to be suspended from the league for the whole season. It leaves them without an elite quarterback since Mayfield is on the move.
There were rumors regarding the Browns’ trying efforts to convince Baker Mayfield to stay this season and play for them. However, as expected, Mayfield is likely to deny that offer, as he wants to join another team.
Talking about the situation, Baker said, “I think for that to happen there would have to be some reaching out. But we’re ready to move on, I think — on both sides.”
What’s next for Baker Mayfield?
As stated above, Baker Mayfield is very likely to move on from the Cleveland Browns. Mayfield wants to be the focal point of a team, which is why he is ready to join another team.
Baker Mayfield talked about his future and said, “I’m thankful for my four years in Cleveland. A ton of ups and downs and learning experiences I’ll forever keep with me. … The people in Cleveland, it’s a great sports town. I’m thankful for it and there’s no resentment to the city of Cleveland by any means.”
As things stand, the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers are interested in getting Mayfield. Both these teams are in need of a quarterback, and Baker might be the solution to their problem.
The Seahawks haven’t replaced Russell Wilson yet, and are stuck with Geno Smith and Drew Lock as their quarterbacks. Either they’ll try to get Mayfield from the Browns, or they’ll tank in the upcoming season to get a good quarterback via the draft.
On the other hand, the Carolina Panthers already tried their luck with two quarterbacks last season. Neither Cam Newton nor Sam Darnold worked for them. They are considered the strongest contenders to land Mayfield, and it’ll be a good fit for both parties.

The Cleveland Browns’ fans were excited when they got Deshaun Watson. He is an elite quarterback, and many believe he is a major upgrade over Baker Mayfield. They even offered him a huge contract so that he’d be a part of the team’s future.
However, as things presently stand, it’s very likely that Waston will be suspended for the whole season by the league. This is due to all the lawsuits that were filed against him, and the league doesn’t want him to get away without facing any punishment.
A lawsuit was also filed against Watson’s former team, the Houston Texans. It was filed because all of the publicized infractions occurred while Deshaun was in Houston.
The Houston Texans released a statement that said, “We are aware of the lawsuit filed against us today. Since March 2021, we have fully supported and complied with law enforcement and the various investigations. We will continue to take the necessary steps to address the allegations against our organization.”
With Deshaun Watson facing a potential suspension, the Cleveland Browns will need to find a quick solution for this season. Otherwise, another year will end in disappointment for the franchise.
