What happened to Matthew Stafford? Will the Rams quarterback play again this season

Published by

Many expected Matthew Stafford to lead the Los Angeles Rams to yet another deep run in the playoffs. But the defending champions were far from their best sine the inaugural week of the 2022-23 season. Being unable to catch up to the pace of the game, injuries and lackluster chemistry on the field haunted their campaign.

After the end of Week 12, not only were the Los Angeles Rams out of playoff contention but even lost their marquee stars like Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford due to respective injuries. Talking in particular about the star Quarterback – Matthew Stafford, he has been ruled out for the remaining 2022-23 season with a nek strain cord contusion. Not only that Matthew was seen struggling with concussion and shoulder issues as well.

As per Sean McVay the reason for Los Angeles Rams enduring so many injuries in the 2022-23 season was largely due to the short offseason they had, following the Super Bowl triumph.

Will next for Matthew Stafford?

As the Rams acquired Baker Mayfield only to finish their 2022-23 campaign on a high note, Matthew Stafford has been seen talking with the former QB on the headset quite often. Being invested in the team’s plans, Stafford is showing his true commitment for the side.

Set to return for his third season under center, Matthew Stafford will have to wait some nine months until he can impact a Los Angeles Rams game with his play – but he’s undeterred from finding ways to make his mark this year.

“What’s so impressive about Matthew is just being able to contribute and connect with his teammates, stay connected with his teammates in any way that he can,” Rams coach McVay acknowledged.

But for now, as he is sidelined, all eyes are on Baker Mayfield who looks to help this team climb places in the NFC West standings.
