This move of Baker Mayfield happened via NFL Waiver Wire, which allows some teams in the league to release players in hopes of assigning them to the practice squad. However, the process has a different layer to it, this is done in order for those left out players, who haven’t been selected by any team in the 53-team roster, to be placed on these waivers and then clear waivers.

Carolina Panthers had acquired Baker Mayfield from Cleveland Browns but due to his lackluster and inconsistent performance, he was waived off.
