Seattle Seahawks legendary defensive unit is known as the Legion of Boom. This spoken of league of players led Seattle to 6 consecutive winning seasons, three divisional titles, two NFC Championship, consecutive Super Bowl appearances, including the franchise’s first ever taste of winning the ultimate silverware.
Interestingly between 2012 and 2015, the Seattle Seahawks led the league in scoring defense for four straight seasons, which was never before seen feat in the Super Bowl era. So, which players comprised of the Seattle Seahawks’ Legion of Boom’ and how did they come together?
The magic started when cornerback Richard Sherman was acquired with the 154th pick in the 2011 Draft, resulting in joining safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. This also had cornerback Brandon Browner, being on the original starting members. The latter was eventually signed by the New England Patriots and was strategically replaced by Bryon Maxwell. This unit also included Walter Thurmond.
While the Legion of Boom of the Seattle Seahawks has been dismantled, they remain to be one of the best ever defensive unit to have been brought together. With each individual being so different to the other, it is indeed safe to urge how a franchise changed their entire picture by not bringing a Quarterback (how it works in modern-day NFL), Seahawks composed of a core that they drafted between 2010 and 2011.
Many regard, Kam Chancellor to be the leader of this unit, who met with an unfortunate injury – he injured his neck in the 2017 season and never recovered back from it. While 4 out of the 6 of the mentioned Seattle Seahawks’ Legion of Boom members have already hung up their boots.
That being said, it has almost been a decade since we last witnessed the magic of Seattle Seahawks’ Legion of Boom – yet it remains to be the numero uno unit of defense in the minds of majority of modern-day fans
